This week, I had time to playtest!! Yeah! I playtested Radio Tower with my wife. We used 2d4 and played with the latest version of the map, the one with corner spaces. Rulebook and components can be download here as a free Print-N-Play.
With 2d4 the game is really different, in a positive way. Let see.
– It speeds up the pace of the game: on each turn you are guaranteed to roll a minimum of 2 Action Points.
– Rolling 2 dice also increases the enjoyment. Players are more eager to see the results. This feeling is hard to explain, the best I can think of right now is: «it is more challenging and rewarding to roll a good score with two dice than with only a die.»
– 2d4 increases the strategy of the game. As stated above, you are sure to have a minimum of 2 Action Points to spend on each turn. This allows you to think about your next move during your opponent turn.
– The probability are different and more balance. The change to hit 4, 5 and 6 with 2d4 are greater than the ones to roll 4, 5 and 6 with a six-sided die.
This allows you to make some good defensive moves. Remember that tower cannot move through opponent towers. It must stop to sabotage it and take its place.
To conclude, the 2d4 and the corner spaces are here to stay.
